What We’ll Cover

English Literature

To succeed in GCSE English Literature, we will concentrate on thoroughly understanding the exam texts and analysing them critically and comparatively. We will cover the following texts :

1)  Romeo and Juliet

A timeless tragedy by William Shakespeare that explores the intense and doomed love between two young lovers from feuding families. The play delves into themes of love, fate, conflict, and the consequences of hate.

2)  Macbeth

Shakespeare’s dark and gripping tale of ambition and power, following Macbeth’s rise to the throne of Scotland through betrayal and murder. The play examines themes of guilt, fate, and the corrupting influence of unchecked ambition.

3)  An Inspector Calls

J.B. Priestley’s drama, set in Edwardian England, follows an inspector investigating a young woman’s death, highlighting social responsibility, class inequality, and moral accountability.

4)  A Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens’ classic novella tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly man transformed through visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. It highlights themes of redemption, compassion, and the spirit of Christmas.

5)  And Many More

Students will also explore a wide range of other compelling texts, each offering unique insights into human nature, society, and timeless themes. These texts provide a rich foundation for analysis and critical thinking.
